The Outrage is supported by readers and the Athens Institute. Without reader donations this site would not exist.
Here are seven good reasons to support the Outrage:
1. Support Your Values
Most importantly, you'll be helping to support the values that The Outrage seeks to promote - reform of the legal system, individual responsibility, self-reliance, private philanthropy, and freedom from excessive governmental meddling in your life.
If you're tired of:
- seeing lawyers using the court system as their personal get-rich-quick scheme,
- politicians who waste your money and curtail your freedom,
- celebrities who trash the values you believe in,
then you'll want to be a member of The Outrage.
The more donations we get the more often we can produce The Outrage - we'd like to go back to the daily mailing schedule we maintained during most of 1997.
2. Take Action
We'd like to do more than just write about Rage - we'd like to help you take action. For instance, when San Francisco Mayor
Willie Brown defended Latrell Sprewell's attack on his coach, we supplied our readers with Brown's email address. Many of them
wrote their own notes to Mayor Brown protesting his defense of Sprewell's Outrageous conduct. Brown responded to many of those notes. With additional funding, we can take the offensive more often.
3. Get a Tax Deduction
As The Outrage is produced by the not-for-profit Athens Institute, all donations are fully deductible. For more about the
Athens Institute, click here.
4. Books and Posters
Donors are entitled to certain benefits, like books and posters. Currently we're offering two donor bonuses:
- the book "Official Lies: How Washington Misleads Us"
- a poster showing a defiant student bravely bringing tanks to a halt as they head towards Tiananmen Square.
For more information about this book and poster click here.
5. Get It First
Be the first kid on your block to be Outraged. Donors' mailing addresses are put at the top of the mailing list. Donors receive
their Outrages hours or even a day before other subscribers. (It's a big list.)
6. Talk To Us - We Listen
We've developed a special comments form for donors. Of course, we try to listen to ALL of the comments and suggestions we
receive, but some days we receive hundreds of emails. This form helps us to respond quickly to those who support our efforts. If
you're a donor, you deserve a fast response to your question or suggestion. Use
this form to suggest an Outrage, or just to let us know what you're thinking.
7. Your Donation Is Multiplied
Our operating expenses are many, many times as great as the money we've raised. But the donations serve an important symbolic purpose. For every dollar we raise from our readers, we're able to raise about $35 from other sources.
The donations from readers prove that people really care about supporting these values. In order to raise money from big donors you have to convince them that you really have a grassroots following. In that sense, the number of donors is more important than the amount of money raised.
